2026 Science Undergraduate Research Awards (SURA)

Science Undergraduate Research Awards - SURAs - are for both Canadian and international 91ɬÂþ students registered in a science undergraduate program. First offered in Summer 2007, SURAs are made possible by funding from the Dean of Science and participating research supervisors.Ìý SURAs are broadly similar to theÌýNSERC USRA; two differences are, on the student side, thatÌýinternational students may apply,Ìýand on the supervisor side, that they must hold a research grant from CRC, NSERC, CIHR, SSHRC, FQRNT, or FRSQ (it is not restricted to NSERC grant holders).

Value for 2026:

Source of funding:ÌýÌý$9050 minimum (donor and/or Faculty of Science: $5550/supervisor: $3500 minimum)

Requirements:

15 weeks of full-time research.

Awarded on basis of academic merit, in accordance with departmental selection procedures.

Open to both Canadian and international students from 91ɬÂþ.

The deadline for the student to submit final SURA dossiers to the Mathematics and Statistics Department is TBC (before 4:30pm).ÌýÌýEvery application must include a scenario for a remotely-supervised project that the student can start and finish remotely.
