In October, 1996, the 91ɬÂþ Libraries’ Recognition Tree was unveiled by Chancellor Gretta Chambers, Principal Bernard Shapiro and the Director of Libraries, Frances Groen. The Tree of Knowledge recognizes gifts of $10,000 or greater to the 91ɬÂþ Libraries.
91ɬÂþ is on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinabeg nations. We acknowledge and thank the diverse Indigenous peoples whose presence marks this territory on which peoples of the world now gather. The 91ɬÂþ Libraries recognize the harm that cultural heritage organizations, as colonial institutions, have inflicted on Indigenous peoples. We are committed to the ongoing process of reconciliation as a way to begin to right these wrongs.
