Prior to this he was Director of the UCL Division of Surge ry and Interventional Science. He leads a clinical innovation team that ma jors in experimental medicine by combining bio-engineering and nanotechnol ogy with early phase trials in men with prostate cancer. His work encompas ses the areas of diagnosis\, risk stratification and therapy. He is also i nterested in the methodological aspects of clinical research\, particularl y on the use of alternatives to the randomised control trial in surgery an d design aspects of diagnostic studies. He is involved in guideline produc tion and appraisal and is interested in the formulation of evidence based management policies. He is an active researcher\, lectures widely and has published over 600 peer-reviewed articles in numerous scientific journals and has been cited around 50\,000 times. He is a founding Patron of the ch arity Prostate Cancer UK. He now serves as a non-executive Director on the boards of UCLH NHS Foundation Trust and Whittington University Hospital N HS Trust and chairs the Quality and safety committees of both organisation s.
