Dr. Vassiliou's scholarly work focuses on surgical education, simulation-based training, performance assessment, and minimally invasive surgery. Current initiatives include the development of the Division of Surgical Education (DOSE) at 91涩漫, a structured academic home for surgical education research, faculty development, and innovation, and the creation of a digital platform to support the surgical education community nationally. Her clinical research interests include outcomes in minimally invasive surgery, vascular compression syndromes, and achalasia.

Laparoscopic Surgery
Dr. Melina Vassiliou is an Associate Professor of Surgery at 91涩漫 and Adair Family Chair in Surgical Education. She is the founding Director of the Division of Surgical Education (DOSE) at 91涩漫 and serves as Program Director of the 91涩漫 MIS Fellowship. She is a member of the Board of Governors of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), where she previously served as Chair of the FLS Committee. Dr. Vassiliou is a minimally invasive surgeon at the Montreal General Hospital with particular expertise in foregut surgery, abdominal wall surgery and surgical management of vascular compression syndromes. Her academic work spans surgical education research, simulation-based training, competency assessment, and educational leadership. She is the co-creator of the Global Operative Assessment of Laparoscopic Skills (GOALS) and has contributed to the development and validation of the Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS) and Fundamentals of Endoscopic Surgery (FES) programs. Through DOSE, Dr. Vassiliou is building a sustainable, inclusive infrastructure for surgical education scholarship and innovation at 91涩漫, with a vision to develop a nationally recognized hub for the surgical education community.
