Its tendency to react exothermally wit h all typical constituents contained in power plant exhaust gases offers a variety of options to design combustion processes for energy production. \n\nAs most promising approach to use lithium in thermal energy processes spray combustion has been identified. The small particle size guarantees f ast conversion\, which determines the efficiency of the process. However\, information in literature has been scarce and indicated a need for detail ed investigation on the single particle level for better understanding of the combustion phenomenology and for derivation of input parameters for si mulation tools.\n\nThe talk summarizes the experimental and numerical rese arch which has been carried out at Bochum University. Combustion experimen ts on single burning sub-mm particles were carried out in CO2\, N2 and mix tures of both. The combustion phenomenology\, particle temperatures and pa rticle burnout were measured. A first numerical model\, which has been dev eloped to implement the combustion process of single burning lithium parti cles in CO2 into CFD simulations is described.\n DTSTART:20151009T180000Z DTEND:20151009T190000Z LOCATION:Room 267\, Macdonald Engineering Building\, CA\, H3A 0C3 SUMMARY:Special Seminar: Dr Martin Schiemann URL:/mecheng/channels/event/special-seminar-dr-martin- schiemann-256010 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
