Yaw Nyampong named Executive Director of Centre for Research in Air & Space Law

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Dr. Yaw Nyampong has been named Executive Director of the Centre for Research in Air & Space Law.

Yaw Nyampong (LLM’05, DCL’11) is also a graduate of the Faculty of Law of the University of Ghana, Legon. He held an Arsenault Postdoctoral Fellowship at 91ɬ's Institute of Air & Space Law in 2011-2012, and a Boulton Fellowship at the Faculty of Law in 2012-2013.

The Worlds of the Trust: newest publication from the Paul-André Crépeau Centre

We are happy to announce that the latest publication from the Crépeau Centre is The Worlds of the Trust (Cambridge University Press, 2013), which was edited by Professor Lionel Smith.

This collection of 22 essays makes a significant contribution to the comparative study of trusts. It includes contributions from Canada, the U.S., England, France, Scotland, South Africa, Israel and China.

Hat Trick For Daniel Boyer

The Faculty of Law was delighted to learn that our colleague Daniel Boyer (BA’79, MLIS’88), Head Librarian of the Nahum Gelber Law Library, was named Associate Dean of User Services of the 91ɬ Library for a two-year mandate.

As well, Me Boyer has also been named to the board of directors of the Société québécoise d'information juridique (SOQUIJ) for a period of five years, following the recommendation of the Deans of law faculties across Quebec.

BLG makes generous donation to Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private & Comparative Law

John G. Murphy, managing partner at Borden Ladner Gervais (BLG), is extremely proud of the efforts made by a team headed by H. John Godber (BCL'88, LLB'88) and Neil Hazan (BCL/LLB'02) to support 91ɬ Faculty of Law’s Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law. The fundraising activity, which brought in $400,000 from BLG’s lawyers and partners across Canada, ended this month.

Ronald Niezen inaugural incumbent of the Pearson Chair in Civil Society and Public Policy

Margaret Somerville awarded a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, by Royal Military College of Canada

91ɬ Professor Margaret Somerville was awarded a Doctorate of Laws, honoris causa, on May 16, 2013, by the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario. During the College’s 94th Convocation ceremony, the College’s Chancellor, the Honourable Peter McKay, Minister of Defence, cited “her exceptional contributions to society through research, scholarly debate and personal involvement.”

Sally Engle Merry awarded a Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, at Convocation 2013

The Faculty of Law is delighted to present the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, to Sally Engle Merry, who will deliver the commencement address at the Spring Convocation on Friday, May 31, at 10 a.m.

A professor of Anthropology in the Institute for Law and Society at New York University, Sally Engle Merry is among the most distinguished scholars of law and society in the world today, and the leading legal anthropologist in the United States.
