Message from the Chair: April 2026

As I write, I am sitting in the warm sun, and it feels as if spring has indeed arrived. The end of the academic year is the time for our annual showcase of the scholarly activities of our residents, our graduate students, and our clinical faculty. Please save the date of June 3 in your calendars for Academic Day. This year the event will take place at the Centre Mont-Royal. Registration opens soon so keep your eyes peeled for an invitation inside your inbox! Note that the Graduation Ceremony for Family Medicine residents will be held in the evening of June 3, also at the Centre Mont Royal, and that registration is also required.

The following day, June 4, the Department will be holding an all-day Faculty Development workshop, titled “From Science to Sense-Making: Talking about Persistent Physical Symptoms in Family Practice”. Click here to register.

The Department of Family Medicine has had a remarkable month of April, of which some highlights include:

  • Dr. Alexandra Massicotte, Medical Director at the FMG-U Vaudreuil-Soulanges won the Emerging Practitioner Award (catégorie Relève) from the Collège des Médecins du Québec (CMQ). Congratulations, Alexandra!
  • On April 17, we hosted the second iteration of its Procedure Skills Workshop, a complement to the Annual Refresher Course in Family Medicine. Primary care health care workers came together to practice a range of commonly performed office procedures, including IUD insertion, endometrial biopsy, joint injections, and more!
  • On April 21, Prof. Alayne Adams delivered the Annual Dr. Hirsh Rosenfeld Distinguished Public Lecture in Family Medicine. The event, titled Fixing Primary Care in Canada: A Social Science Perspective, was attended in person and on-line by over 100 people and gave us all insights into our health care system.

I also congratulate our Department’s Dr. Leonora (Lennie) Lalla, who has been at the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Congratulations, Lennie, and know that we are supporting your hard work to address the many challenges facing our discipline!

Late in March, at a ceremony for the , Department members Wendy Estevez, Susan Finkelberg and Jessica Tremblay were honoured. This recognition from 91ɬ celebrates educators who have gone the extra mile to help shape the next generation of medical professionals!

I will take this opportunity to thank all department faculty members for their teaching this year, whether it be to medical students, graduate students, family medicine residents, faculty members, or other members of our academic community! Your steadfast work contributes to the academic discipline of Family Medicine.

Very warmly as always,

Marion
