Using Swedish adm inistrative data linking college applications\, birth records\, and labor market outcomes\, we estimate causal effects of field of study on fertilit y by exploiting quasi-random variation at admission thresholds for oversub scribed programs\, comparing individuals with similar stated preferences w ho scored just above or below the cutoff. We find substantial heterogeneou s effects on both fertility timing and completed fertility across fields a nd genders—with much larger impacts on entry into parenthood than complete d fertility. Our unique data allow us to observe completed fertility for m any cohorts and link enrollment to occupations\, revealing how effects ope rate through income trajectories\, work hours\, job flexibility\, and skil l requirements. These findings demonstrate that field of study shapes outc omes well beyond labor market returns\, with important implications for fa mily formation\, gender inequality\, and the broader determinants of decli ning fertility.\n DTSTART:20260501T140000Z DTEND:20260501T153000Z LOCATION:Room 429\, Leacock Building\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 2T7\, 855 r ue Sherbrooke Ouest SUMMARY:Gregory Veramendi (University of London)\, 'Field of Study and Futu re Fertility' URL:/economics/channels/event/gregory-veramendi-univer sity-london-field-study-and-future-fertility-367149 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
