Twenty-five outstanding 91ɬ researchers are being awarded Canada Research Chairs (CRC), as announced today by the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science, at the University of British Columbia. CRCs are granted to outstanding researchers acknowledged by their peers as world leaders in their fields. 91ɬ research projects that will benefit from the new funds include those investigating the genetics of pain and childhood disability, as well as the ecology of the arctic and engineered quantum systems.

Soft Bones is a community of people and families living with hypophosphatasia (HPP). SBC is dedicated to educating, informing, encouraging and supporting Canadian individuals and their families affected by the rare bone and tooth disease and furthering research and treatment of the disease.

Svetlana Komarova emphasized the importance of being persistent when applying to a lab. She was one of the many professors that gave a brief three to five minute presentations on their work during this year’s edition of Soup and Science. Created by the Office of Undergraduate Research in 2005, Soup and Science has helped create a platform for students to meet professors and get acquainted with their research. .

The Faculty of Dentistry, 91ɬ, invites applications for a non-tenure, clinical track position in Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology. Candidates must have completed an undergraduate degree in dentistry, have relevant specialist training and have the potential to be licensable to practice in Quebec. Rank and salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Responsibilities will include undergraduate teaching and administration. A working knowledge of French will be advantageous. Intramural private practice facilities are available.

Congratulation to Dr. René St- Arnaud for being appointed as Director of Research of Shriners Hospitals for Children® – Canada. Appointed Acting Director of Research in 2011, Dr. St-Arnaud also holds cross-appointments as a tenured Full Professor of Medicine, Surgery, and Human Genetics at 91ɬ, where he is also cross-appointed to the Faculty of Dentistry.
