Biography:

My research explores the histories, politics and emerging futures of tropical rainforest governance, with particular emphasis on Peruvian Amazonia. Drawing on science and technology studies, media theory, anthropology, geography and history, I teach and write on topics such as global environmental governance, the politics of technical expertise and the rise of planetary knowledge infrastructures in the context of climate change and biodiversity loss. As part of this research agenda, I have conducted research on river governance in the Amazon rainforest. In this capacity, I am interested in how the nomadic nature of Amazonian rivers forces us to reconsider longstanding political assumptions around territorial governance, sovereignty, public infrastructure provisioning and private property.

Research areas:
Governance, Security & Water Management
